Like many “why-didn’t-I-think-of-that ideas, eSecuritel started by accident. Literally.In April 2001, a leisurely afternoon boat ride turned into an expensive and frustrating inconvenience when a cell phone dropped overboard. When eSecuritel co-founder Jamie Simmons learned that his friend and fellow co-founder, Michael Iaquinta, had no protection on the phone and that the only option was full replacement at full cost, a breakthrough idea emerged:
Why not build a company with specialized technology that focused solely on the repair and replacement of lost, stolen or damaged cell phones? It would be an industry trailblazer.
The system would be comprehensive and flexible enough to work in whatever way the wireless carrier or customers needed: from online processing to real-time inventory management to walking into a carrier's store for help after an incident.
After launching the prototype in June 2001, eSecuritel obtained its first major account. The prototype system morphed into the web-enabled Handset Issue Tracking System—HITS™. Revenues doubled in 2002, and as 2003 closed, the company had over 55,000 subscribers in the program.
In 2004, to keep up with the growth, the infrastructure was enhanced with a new call center, as well as a logistics and repair facility. The investments paid off: 2004 revenue doubled that of 2002, and in 2005 nearly tripled that of 2004. With the company’s acquisition by MainSail Partners in 2005 and an infusion of growth capital, eSecuritel has continued on the path of aggressively pursuing new clients.
As 2007 begins, carriers, regardless of their size, are realizing the benefits of the power, scalability and flexibility of eSecuritel’s unique technology and equally important, the value eSecuritel’s fast, reliable, customer-friendly services.
